Going all in on yourself

There is a verse in the Bible that says, “So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I’m [God] about to spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:16)

If we take this verse out of a religious context, it can be interpreted to mean that life has a way of spitting us out when we are lukewarm. When we take half-measures. When we hesitate. When we make excuses. When we say we will start tomorrow.

As a transformational coach, I am not as concerned with whether my clients achieve their concrete goals as I am with helping them transform into the kind of person who can put their whole heart into pursuing them.

Becoming the kind of person who can go all-in requires understanding the inner blocks that prevent us from doing so.

For many people, past failures loom large. Learning how to analyze why you failed from a place of honesty and self-compassion is crucial. When we torture ourselves with thoughts like, “I should have know better",” we enter a shame spiral.

be realistic. set smaller goals. build evidence for your ability to execute.

. Perhaps you’re afraid of how much more it will hurt if you go all in and “fail.” Perhaps you have an identity of someone who doesn’t follow through.

so we play the game of life small. Seeing life dualistically as win/lose, fail/succeed sets us to avoid going all in.

pushed yourself outside of your comfort zone

Reaching the goals themselves is secondary, though, to becoming the kind of person who can trust themselves.

Certainly comes from becoming the kind of person who says they'll do things and then does them. Another useful word here is confidence, from the Latin confidere, which means "to have full trust or reliance."

The point of life, as I see it, is to become more in love with life, more committed to living fully in the now, and create a more expansive life filled with love and adventure.

This is easier said than done.

Learning to commit yourself to personal goals is how we evolve as people. Without goals, we are destined to go in circles.
